President Yoon Suk-yeol and President of Finland Sauli Niinistö exchanged congratulatory letters on Aug. 24 to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Finland this year. 

The date of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Finland was Aug. 24, 1973.

In his letter, President Yoon conveyed a warm friendly greeting to the President and people of Finland. He also appreciated that the two countries, which share universal values, have developed cooperation in various fields, including politics, economy, and culture, and looked forward to continued advances toward more fruitful and mature bilateral ties. 

President Yoon also hoped to further strengthen friendship by having more opportunities to understand each other through various cultural events marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 

Meanwhile, President Niinistö noted that the two countries have built long-standing and excellent relations after establishing diplomatic relations in 1973. He also mentioned that he looks forward to enhancing cooperation with the Republic of Korea in both bilateral and multilateral fora.
