President Yoon leaves for Indonesia to attend ASEAN and G20 summits

Yoon will also attend a bilateral summit with Indonesian counterpart Widodo

President Yoon Suk-yeol has embarked on a trip on Sept. 5 to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the G20 summit. First Lady  Kim Keon-hee also accompanied the trip.

 

President Yoon will visit Jakarta, Indonesia, from Sept. 5 to 8 to attend ASEAN-related summits. President Yoon's attendance at the ASEAN meeting was at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and it was his second attendance at the ASEAN meeting since the Phnom Penh meeting in Cambodia in November last year.

 


On the morning of Sept. 6, President Yoon will attend the ASEAN-ROK (Republic of Korea) Summit to review tangible bilateral cooperation and discuss future collaboration. 


In the afternoon, he will attend the ASEAN Plus Three Summit, where he will stress the importance of cooperation with ASEAN and that with China and Japan to realize the vision of an East Asian community.


Ob Sept. 7, President Yoon will attend the East Asian Summit. The East Asian Summit is a strategic forum in which the leaders of 18 countries will discuss major security issues in and out of the region.


President Yoon plans to present South Korea's position on regional and international issues including North Korea.

 

On Sept. 8, President Yoon will attend a bilateral summit with Indonesian counterpart Widodo at the presidential palace in Jakarta. Afterwards, both leaders will also hold a signing ceremony for key cooperation agreements and a joint news conference.


Later that day, President Yoon will fly to New Delhi, India, to attend the G20 Summit. At the summit on Sept. 9, President Yoon will highlight Korea's leading role in efforts to overcome the climate change crisis and explain Seoul's plans to contribute toward building a free and prosperous future by protecting the international order based on rules.

 

Yoon will also hold bilateral summits with this year's G20 chair country India, Spain, Argentina and Mauritius.

President Yoon will return home on Sept. 10 after a meeting with business leaders in India in the afternoon.
