President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is in New York for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, held a summit with Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry on the afternoon of September 21.
 

During the meeting, President Yoon requested Haiti's support for the 2030 Busan World Expo and exchanged views on ways to develop bilateral relations.

President Yoon noted that Haiti was the first Caribbean country to establish diplomatic relations with Korea, and appreciated the high-level exchanges that have been taking place, including the Prime Minister's meeting in July and this summit.

While discussing cooperation on the security situation in Haiti, President Yoon expressed hope that practical cooperation between the two countries will expand in various fields, including trade and investment, health care, and development cooperation, and that Korea will continue to contribute to Haiti's economic and social development.

Prime Minister Henry expressed his gratitude for Korea's pro bono assistance to Haiti, including humanitarian assistance in response to the earthquake and cholera, support for vulnerable populations, and strengthening of law enforcement capabilities. He also expressed his hope for closer cooperation in healthcare.

Henry noted that Haiti is an island nation vulnerable to climate change, and he hoped that our cooperation on climate change would continue through our government's support of the Caribbean Coastal Erosion Monitoring Project.

The two leaders used the meeting as an opportunity to further enhance bilateral exchanges and continue to identify cooperative projects that benefit both economies.
