President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is visiting New York to attend the 78th high-level session of the United Nations General Assembly, held his first summit with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the afternoon of September 20.
 

During the meeting, President Yoon requested Greece's support for the 2030 Busan World Expo and exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations.

President Yoon congratulated Prime Minister Mitsotakis on his election to a second term in June, and expressed his pleasure that relations with Greece, which sent more than 10,000 troops to fight for freedom during the Korean War, have been developing amicably in all fields. 

In particular, President Yoon praised the close cooperation between Korea and Greece, which are the world's top two shipbuilding and shipping powers, respectively, and called for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of eco-friendly ship R&D by utilizing the strengths of both countries.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis said that based on the complementary economic structures of the two countries, there is great room for economic cooperation such as trade and investment between the two countries, and he hopes to expand cooperation with Korea, especially in the fields of energy, environment, and tourism, to revitalize human and material exchanges. Mitsotakis also said that the two countries will open the era of eco-friendly green shipping together.

The two leaders agreed to use the meeting as an opportunity to continue identifying cooperative projects that will benefit both economies.
