Providing hundreds of meals to veteran families

Since Samsung Electronics Home Appliances America (SEHA) planted roots in Newberry, South Carolina, Samsung has looked for ways to enhance the lives, experiences and opportunities for local military communities, working closely with organizations like the American Legion and the Freedom and Hope Foundation. For the last seven years, Samsung has hosted a Veterans Day Luncheon, providing hundreds of meals to veteran families. It’s become a cherished and honored tradition.

“Every year, we look forward to this event to show our commitment and appreciation for those who gave so much,” said Daniel Grove, Head of Human Resources at Samsung Electronics Home Appliances America. “Veterans hold a special place in our community, our company, and our hearts. We look forward to continuing our efforts and showing the local community how important they are to the success at Samsung.”

On Saturday, November 11, Samsung hosted the 7th annual Veterans Day Luncheon at the Veterans’ Affairs Office in Newberry. Despite inclement weather, which canceled the Newberry Veterans Day Parade, Samsung’s drive-thru event was rain or shine. Volunteers braved the rain and handed out 670 meals in a Samsung tote bag with additional branded items and special treats inside.

“We are grateful that Samsung is still participating and helping out so much. We are thankful that Samsung is here helping veterans,” said Eugene Wilson, Commander of American Legion Post 219 in Newberry County.

Raleigh Hickman, Director of Veteran Affairs in Newberry County, was there on Saturday to help serve the long line of cars wrapped around the building.

“There was no doubt that even though the pouring rain was coming, that we were still going to serve the veterans,” said Hickman. “They have a connection with Samsung and they feel that Samsung really does care about them genuinely. It’s about them and it’s important to the community that the veterans know their sacrifice does not go unnoticed. We do appreciate them and we thank Samsung for what they are doing.”

As a token of their appreciation, Samsung was presented with a plaque marked with each year of sponsorship and room for many more. Thomas Komaromi, General Counsel for SEHA, was there to receive the plaque on the company’s behalf.

“It means so much to see so many veterans come out and remember that Samsung puts this on every year,” Komaromi said. “We’re just so overjoyed to be partnering with the community and do our small part to say ‘thank you’ to veterans.”
