During his visit to Hiroshima, Japan, to attend the G7 Summit, President Yoon Suk-yeol held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida from 7:55 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on May 21.  Both leaders welcomed the opportunity to have another summit meeting within just two months, following President Yoon's visit to Japan in March and Prime Minister Kishida's visit to Korea in May.

They acknowledged the active communication that has taken place during the past two months, including three meetings, and expressed their commitment to continue close cooperation and achieve concrete outcomes in various fields, including diplomacy, security, economy, industry, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

President Yoon congratulated Prime Minister Kishida on the successful hosting of the Hiroshima G7 Summit under his leadership. He raised issues related to the Korea-Japan relationship, including the resumption of direct flights between Korea and Hiroshima, smooth operation of the "Korea-Japan Future Partnership Fund," and progress in supply chain and advanced technology cooperation.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of a free and open international order based on the rule of law and highlighted the need for like-minded countries that value freedom to come together.

They agreed that Korea and Japan, which share universal values, need to respond to various global agendas through mutual solidarity and cooperation. In particular, they decided to strengthen cooperation between the two countries on global agendas in light of the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

Furthermore, both leaders agreed on the need to further strengthen close coordination between Korea, the United States, and Japan in the face of the escalating threat of North Korean nuclear weapons and missiles.

Finally, they pledged to continue the shuttle diplomacy be tween the two leaders whenever opportunities arise in the future.
