외교저널 (Diplomacy Journal) 강미선 기자 | 사려니는 살인이 혹은 '만이' 라고 불리는데 여기에 쓰이는 '살' 혹은 ''은 신성한 곳 또는 신청스러운 곳이라는 신역(神)의 산염(山)에 쓰이는 말이다.

 

즉 사려니는 '신성한곳이라는 뜻이다. 

 

 

사려니 숲길은 서귀포시 남원읍 남리 사려니 오름에서 물찻오름 약15km,이며, 숲길의 전체의 평균 고도는500~600m 정도이다. 

 

 

사려니숲길은 완만한 평탄지형으로 물찻오름 괴평이오름, 마은이오름 붉은오름, 거린오름 및 사려니오름과 천미천서 중 천오름은 계곡을 끼고 있다. 

 

 

전형적인 온대림 사려니숲길에는 참나무, 서어나무, 산딸나무, 때죽나무, 단풍나무 등 천연림과 인공조림 중산간 목초지에 만들어진 목장 경계용 등과 가마터 흔적이 남아있어 제주의 산림축문화를 엿볼 수 있는 숲길로 신성한 생명의 공간이자 자연 생태문화를 체험하는 소통의 공간이다.

 

 

 

Saryeoni Forest

Saryeoni is called Salani or Solani, indicating a holy place. Sal or Sol in place names are used for a mountain
located in a spiritual place or a holy place.

 

The 15km-trail starts from Saryeoni Oreum (small volcanic_cone) at Hannam-ri(village) Namwon-eup (town)
Segwipo-si(city) to Bijarim Road at Gyorae-ri Jocheon-eup Jeju-si, encompassing Muichat Oreum.

 

 

Located at 500 to 600 meters above the sea level in an area designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, this
evenly graded trail embraces a variety of natural attractions such as Mulchat Oreum, Malchat Oreum, Goepyeong-e
Oreum, Maeuni Oreum, Bulguen Oreum, Georin Oruem, Saryeoni Oreum, Cheonmicheon, and Seojungcheon.
The path is a natural habitat for trees including queritron, hornbeam, dogwood, snowbell and maple and for the

 

artificial forestation among cedar tree and cypress, offering an idle spot for healing through eco-healing walks. The
traces of Jatseong (a stone wall erected to draw a boundary for a ranch created in a meadow in a mountainous
area) and charcoal kilns allow visitors to have a peek into the forest and farming culture of Jeju, inviting them into
a sacred life where people can communicate with the island's ecological culture.
