외교저널 (Diplomacy Journal) 이정하 기자 | 프랑스의 브뤼노 르메르 경제·재무장관은 22일(월) 제3국의 불공정한 보조금 지원을 받은 수입 상품에 대한 관세 부과를 검토해야 한다고 언급해 주목받았다. 르메르 장관은 22일(월) 유럽의회 청문회에서 최근 EU가 전통적 보조금 규제에 대한 맹목적인 집착에서 벗어나, 전략 섹터에 대한 정부 지원을 확대한 것에 대해 혁신적이라며 높이 평가하고,나아가, 중국과 미국이 자국 산업 발전과 기술적 이해관계를 도모하는 보호주의적 정책을 시행 중인 가운데, 이런 불공정한 보조금에 대응하기 위한 관세 부과 등을 검토해야 한다고 언급했다. 다만 구체적인 품목 및 대상 국가 등에 대해서는 언급하지 않았다. 작년 미국의 인플레이션 감축법(IRA) 발표 및 EU와 중국 간 교역 갈등이 격화하는 가운데, 프랑스는 보호주의 정책에 대하여 EU 회원국 가운데 가장 적극적으로 강력한 대응을 주장했다. 이의 일환으로 프랑스는 최근 친환경 자동차 보조금 제도개편을 통해 유럽산 전기차에 대한 보조금을 확대하는 등 IRA법과 유사한 내용의 보조금 제도 도입을 발표했다.
